Caffe Interkultura: youth for unity in diversity

The project "Caffe Interculture: youth for unity in diversity" is a continuation of the initiative through which the NGO Center for Youth Education, in cooperation with the NGO Nest, creates space for open conversation of young people about diversity, identities, mutual understanding and living together. The project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Human and Minority Rights - Directorate for Interculturalism, within the public competition for 2026. the year "Generation of interculture: Our interculturalism for human security and a better common future". The new project cycle relies on the results of the previous "Caffe Interculture", which brought together more than 90 young people from the northern, central and southern regions of Montenegro. Through the creative workshops "Social Mosaic", the evaluation of young people's attitudes, the final art event and the drafting of the document "Youth Voice: Recommendations for Intercultural Montenegro", young people were given the opportunity to talk about the challenges they face and propose ways to build a more open and connected society. Their experiences and recommendations are the starting point for continuing the project and expanding its scope.

During the 12 months of implementation, the project will include at least 180 young people aged 15 to 30 from Podgorica, Cetinje, Bar, Bijelo Polje and Berane. Special attention will be paid to the inclusion of young people from different cultural, ethnic, religious, linguistic and social backgrounds, so that the project activities reflect the diversity of contemporary Montenegro. Activities will start online by mapping the needs, attitudes and levels of youth awareness of interculturalism, through which at least 100 responses will be collected. The obtained findings will be used to adapt educational content and formulate recommendations based on the real experiences of young people. Five educational workshops for at least 150 participants will be organized in Podgorica, Cetinje, Bar, Bijelo Polje and Berane, dedicated to the development of intercultural competencies, the recognition of stereotypes and prejudices, the prevention of discrimination and hate speech, as well as the promotion of a culture of dialogue.

The project also includes the publication of three thematic blog texts, the organization of an intercultural youth meeting in Berane, an educational quiz "How much do we understand each other?" and a final round table. The round table will bring together at least 30 representatives of young people, institutions, the education system, the civil sector and other relevant actors, with the aim of defining at least ten specific recommendations for improving intercultural dialogue and the position of young people.

"Caffe Interkultura: youth for unity in diversity" continues the path started by the previous project, but expands it through research of attitudes, a larger number of participants and cities, new educational formats and stronger connection of young people with decision makers. The project is aimed at long-term change – a society in which differences are not seen as an obstacle, but as a value and a basis for solidarity, mutual respect and a safer common future.
